Birth in Caponago, Milan (米蘭),
Italy (意大利): [1 September 1905]
Death of Brother Luigi Brambilla, P.I.M.E.
Brother Luigi Brambilla, PIME, died suddenly
in St. Paul’s Hospital after a heart attack on 5 February 1982, aged 76.
He was born at Caponago, Milan province, Italy, on 1 September 1905. He joined the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) in 1925, and came in 1931 to China, where he was assigned to the Nanyang Mission Territory, Honan. He worked there till 1952, when he was arrested, harshly imprisoned and expelled.
After his expulsion, he came to Hong Kong and took up work again as superintendent of the Central Mission House, Caine Road. He held that post till 1969, when he became superintendent of the PIME Regional House, Clear Water Bay Road, Kowloon.
This quiet hardworking life brought him little before the public, and he certainly never courted public notice. Yet the unmistakable distress that news of his death brought to those who knew him was clear testimony to deep affection based not only on the valuable unpretentious work he did but also on the character and devotion of the man he was.
The Bishop led the concelebration of the Mass of the Resurrection in Christ the King Chapel, St. Paul’s Convent, and officiated at the liturgical Last Farewell, and at the graveside in St. Michael's Cemetery.
