Rev. Brother Sebastian, F.S.C.
Former students in the Colony of Reverend Brother Sebastian, F.S.C., will learn with sadness of his death in Penang on the 8 October 1969. He was in his 62 year. He was one of the pioneers of La Salle College when it was first founded by the late Brother Aimar in 1932. He laboured in Hong Kong, Malaya and Singapore for over 35 years as a teacher, Prefect of Boarders and Supervisor of Primary Schools. Retiring as Principal of St. Anthony’s School, Singapore, in 1966, he returned for a short time to La Salle, Kowloon, where he gave valuable assistance as teacher in charge of the young Catechumens class. But the insidious disease that finally conquered him began to appear and he was forced to give up all activities and return to Malaya. Like Zachaeus in the Gospel, he was a man of small stature but he had a wonderful big heart and an inexhaustible fund of energy. Most of his career was spent among young boys and thousands of little ones in the Primary School and lower forms will remember with gratitude the moulding he gave them in their impressionable years. His kindness and patience to everyone, his devotion to the school, his keen interest in the temporal and spiritual well being of the boys are qualities which make us realise how big a loss is his death to his Order and to education in the Far East.
