Mother Wilhelmina Fontanari Canossian Daughter of Charity passed peacefully away on the night of 27 October 1965, in the Infirmary of the Delegation House, 36 Caine Road.
Tribute from one who knew her well
“It is said that a man’s love of His God is measured by the love he has for his fellowmen, and if this is true, then Mother Wilhelmina’s love for her God must have been great indeed.
“She was always ready to extend a helping hand, not only to those who sought her help but others too, for whose sake she went out of her way to seek them in order to help them. This was specially evinced during the 28 years she spent as the Mother-in-Charge of the Hostel for young ladies.
“With true Canossian spirit she lavished her love on the many girls who passed through her hands. She gave it generously, without discrimination and was never too busy to listen to their troubles, comfort them and above all, pray for them. Her generous spirit would go through any trouble for one in need - materially or spiritually.
“I am sure that every one of them on hearing of her death will recall some special occasion when her kindness and motherly under-standing meant so much to them at the time and in their future life.
“Her prayerful soul, so well attuned to the lovely strains of the music which had enriched the lives of so many, has now gone to receive her own reward.”
May she rest in peace!
