Sister John Pasion, R.G.S.
Sister Mary John Pasion of Our Lady of Charity of the Religious of the Good Shepherd died peacefully after a long illness and retuned to her Shepherd-God on 7 December 2000.
Born in Manila 31 July 1931, she joined the Good Shepherd Sisters in 1959. She made her first Profession in Los Angeles, U.S.A. on 8 September 1961 and Final Vows in Quezon City, Philippines on 9 May 1967.
In her early years Sister Mary John taught at St. Bridget’s School in Quezon City and worked as a counselor in a residence for disturbed girls.
Coming to Hong Kong in 1967, she began a missionary life interrupted only by her death.
She was group counselor and school principal at Marycove Centre in Aberdeen until 1972, after which she spent two years in Macau as lecturer and school social worker.
On her return to Hong Kong in 1982 she was an aftercare worker, again at Marycove. She then acquired a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Hong Kong before being named Coordinator of Marycove in 1987.
From 1994 until beset by serious illness in 1997, she worked at the Catholic Centre as a counselor for Filipino migrant workers. Deeply committed to her very active Good Shepherd life and work, she nevertheless quietly accepted her inability to do much in the years of her illness.
The Good Shepherd Sisters thank the doctors, nurses, caregivers and the pastoral care team of Queen Mary Hospital who cared for her so generously in the last months of her life.
Together with her family in the Philippines, the Sisters also
want to thank all for their prayers and kindness at this time.
