Death of Mother Rose Veschi F.D.C.C.
Mother Rose Veschi of the Canossian Sisters, passed away on 23 December 1975, at the Convent’s infirmary - Caine Road - after a prolonged illness borne with great courage.
Mother Rose was born near Lodi (Italy) in 1895. At 20 she was determined to follow her call for the Missions and she entered the new Canossian Novitiate for the Missions in 1915 at Vimercate - Milan. Shortly before her death she quietly celebrated her 60 Anniversary of Religious Life in the infirmary wasting to answer her final summons.
In 1920 she was sent to the Missions of China. Kulupa - in the far away Shensi Province - was to be her field of work and she passed through the many calamities that befell on that tormented Mission.
Her sphere of work is difficult to define. She was always present when a helping hand was needed and she always gave it willingly and cheerfully. To serve others- whenever her own Sisters or other people - was her constant characteristic, and service was never separated from an understanding smile and an elevating song. Hers was a happy nature, who served the Lord “in songs and praises…”
Forced out of her beloved Mission field in 1949 she came to Hong Kong where she continued to serve others until she herself had to receive service from others! But that was at the end of her career!
She died in the full glow of the Christmas Liturgy, and her
funeral took place on Christmas Eve. Mother Rose always cherished the festivity
in a way that it is given only to simple souls.
