The coat of arms gives a simple background of Hong Kong, with the familiar junk and ferry boat representing the meeting of two ages and two cultures.
The motto Laetus serviam is given in Chinese as 誠 悅 事 主. In English it would be “May I serve with joy”: when one serves the Lord, the yoke is sweet and the burden lightened by Christ himself.

徐 主 教 徽 章 以 太 平 山 為 背 景 ； 帆 船 與 渡 輪 並 存 ， 反 映 香 港 社 會 中 兩 個 時代 、 兩 種 文 化 的 滙 合 。 座 右 銘 為 “ 誠 悅 事 主 ” ， 因 為 基 督 說 過 ， 為 祂 負 荷 的 人 必 得 安 息 ， “ 我 的 軛 是 柔 和 的 ， 我 的 擔 子 是 輕 快 的 ” 。
