Bishop Peter Lei’s coat of arms illustrates his motto “Per Crucem ad Lucem” – “Through the Cross to the realm of Light”.
Christ is the Light, and the Light is shed from the Cross. The Chinese motto 共 苦 同 甘 seems to indicate another aspect of the same truth, that one cannot reach Christ the Light except by following the way of the Cross. The dark section of the globe strikingly brings out the dismal effect of the lack of Light.
