Death of Sister Vittoria Eu F.D.C.C.
Sister Vittoria Eu Young Tak Shing of Canossan Sisters died on 10 April 1979, the 144 anniversary of the death of Blessed Magdalen of Canossa, Foundress of her Order. Sister was 84 years of age, and had spent 58 years in religious life.
Tak Shing was born at Hanyang, Hupeh, China, of an upright pagan family. She embraced the Catholic faith while at high school, and with the faith came also the call to religious life. She was one of the first local Canossian novices.
She was sent to Italy for her novitiate, which she completed at the motherhouse in Verona in 1923, specializing in music and painting. She returned to her mission in Hankow in 1924, and taught at and later administrated St. Joseph’s High School till 1949, when it was surrendered to the new regime.
In Hong Kong Sister Vittoria was assigned to the Canossian
home for blind girls, whom she cared for and instructed in music, English and
knitting till 1969, when deforming arthritis forced her into painful but
